Walled Lake’s shoreline once drew visitors for dancing, bathing and amusement rides. The local museum traces part of that story to the Taylor brothers’ dance hall and bathhouse in 1919, followed by the Cenaqua development in 1921.
The Casino was renovated in 1925, and the Flying Dragon ride arrived in 1929. Those names belong to an era when the lakefront was a regional entertainment destination, with attractions that many younger residents know only through photographs and recollections.
The closing chapter came in stages. The Casino burned on Christmas Day in 1965, while the amusement park closed in 1968. Exploring the museum’s account helps separate those two dates—and turns a familiar shoreline into a place with another layer of history.
